What you need to know about REAL ID

The REAL ID Act of 2005 established new standards for what must be included in state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards. California now issues compliant driver licenses, and starting October 1, 2020, you’ll need one in order to board domestic flights or enter military bases and most federal facilities. A REAL ID is not required to continue driving your automobile.

You can get your REAL ID at a California DMV field office. The DMV accepts appointments by calling 1-800-777-0133 during business hours  or by using the DMV’s online appointment system.
